ABOUT THE ORIGINAL PROJECT:

In 2015, I participated in The 100 Day Project, which was a daily Instagram initiative launched by artist Elle Luna and the team at The Great Discontent. My specific project was called 100 Days of Discussion and each day for 100 days my husband and I asked each other one question as a starting point for a discussion. The idea was based on how my husband and I often pass the time on long road trips—by asking each other questions about life, our goals, and our history.

The hope was to take advantage of the impending 100 days and get to know each other better. At the time of the project we were entering our twelfth year as a couple and, while we obviously know each other quite well, the project offered us an opportunity to have conversations we hadn’t had since the early years in our relationship.

Because each daily question was also posted to Instagram, I had the added benefit of getting to know my community on that platform, which is primarily made up of those who listen to the Creating Your Own Path podcast and follow along with my other work.

Since the project ended, people have reached out to tell me how they're still using the questions in their own lives. Some have told me that they've used the questions as writing prompts, others have pulled up the hashtag for their own road trip shenanigans, and I've even heard that some are using the questions to learn and teach English!

LOVE FOR THE ORIGINAL PROJECT

"It's amazing the difference a bite-sized project can make in our lives! So often change feels like it has to be BIG, but little things can make a big impact. That is exactly what 100 Days of Discussion is: one little thing to do each day that can lead to deeper relationships, profound insights, or just a little novelty and fun. I can't wait to buy my copy, I'm IN."

"People who participate in 100 Day Projects either find them unsustainable, or fall into a cult-like group that finds them life changing. I fall into the latter, and my art, writing and creative work grew immensely after participating in The 100 Day Project in 2015 and 2016. What surprised me most was the camaraderie with others who were going through this project at the same time. Jennifer Snyder's project was the perfect place to bring forth a conversation with our creative community for all types of people. I remember looking forward to the thought provoking questions Jennifer asked each day. She a gifted conduit who can ask just the right question, at just the right time, and suddenly you've discovered something about yourself you never have known. For that I am grateful to have been one of the many who benefited from her amazing project!"

- Marissa Huber

"I was interested in 100 Days of Discussion because, while we are always connecting online and through apps, it's always very passive. The project encouraged immediate action through reflection and it made it that much easier to spark conversation with others out in the offline world. I really feel that the more people start talking about the easy, day-to-day things that we'll get that much closer to listening and understanding the heavier topics."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I'VE HEARD THAT SOME OF THE BOOK PROCEEDS WILL HELP SUPPORT A CAUSE OF SOME KIND. WHAT'S THAT ABOUT?

A portion of the proceeds—5% to be exact—from this book and future physical and digital products will help fund the brand new CYOP Artist Residency program.

HOW SHOULD I USE THE BOOK?

There are so many ways to use this tool beyond the structure and purpose of the original project, so the questions have been reorganized and broken down into three sections in the book:

  • Just for Fun
  • Breaking the Ice
  • The Big Questions

In the first two sections, I’ve included additional prompts as a way to encourage further discussion and reflection. The third section is full of questions that, in my opinion, are big enough to stand on their own.

Here are just a few of the many fun ways to use this book:

  • Pass the time on your next road trip.
  • Use the questions as conversation starters at your next dinner party.
  • Start a journaling practice and get to know yourself better.
  • Give the book as an engagement (or anniversary!) gift for your favorite couple.
  • Use the questions to facilitate discussions in small groups of coworkers, conference attendees, or mastermind members.
  • Start your own 100 Days of Discussion project with a loved one.

Bottom line? My hope is that the book will encourage meaningful discussions and greater self-awareness.

THE PRINT BOOK IS SOLD OUT! WHEN WILL YOU PRINT MORE?

My reprinting schedule will depend on interest. Those interested in being notified when the shop is updated with more print books can sign up for the book waiting list. That list is the first to know when books and other items are listed in this shop.

WHY DID YOU TURN THIS INTO BOOK?

The original project wrapped up in the summer of 2015 and so much has happened since. In addition to hearing how others have used the prompts by searching through Instagram, I've also traveled across the country to interview creatives about their work and written features about those in various stages of their careers. In those interviews, I often get told that nobody has ever asked these wonderful humans the questions I have the honor of asking them.

Most recently, I watched as the U.S. presidential election made it abundantly clear that no matter how "connected" we are thanks to social media, we rarely talk to each other anymore. We, as humans, don't know one another as well as we'd like to think.

I've been wracking my brain to come up with a way to get these questions—this incredible opportunity to talk with each other—out of Instagram and into your hands. Thus, a book plan was born.

The first several runs of books will be small and self-published. It will be a test for me, not only as the person who is writing and designing the book, but also a test of my first attempt at creating and selling a physical product. But tests are good and this project is important, so I'm plugging right along.
